The Palaronda Ferrata 360 Tour is the most complete, fun and exciting experience to discover the mountain range of Pale di San Martino through a net of well maintained and well-marked via ferratas and equipped paths.
This Tour, designed for hikers who wants to live an unforgettable experience, covers the entire mountain range of Pale di San Martino from North to South through beautiful paths and via ferratas in about 8 days, making a reservation for one or more overnight stays at the Pale Huts.
1st STAGE – 8h/+765m/-165m
Starting from the car park of the Colverde cable car station in San Martino di Castrozza, take the cable car to get to the Colverde Hut (2.000 metres above sea level). From there, follow the 712 path (so-called “dei Finanzieri” path) up to Rolle Pass (to the Castellazzo / Baita Segantini car park) then take the 710 path to the typical chalet of Baita Segantini (2.174 m. a.s.l.). From there, walk downhill to Val Venegia heading to the pasture of Pian della Vezzana (2.010 m.a.s.l.) and then gradually go up following the 749 path to “Passo di Venegiota”. Take the path on the right and continue on the 751 track following the trail n. 2 of the Alta Via Dolomiti route, which runs along the eastern side of Mulaz to finally reach the Mulaz Hut (2.571 m.a.s.l.) after a short equipped path.
Alternatively, if you leave in the afternoon it is possible to get to the Hut following a shorter route on the 710 “Quinto Scalet” path which from the pasture of Pian della Vezzana goes up to Mulaz Pass (2.619 m.a.s.l.) and then descends to the Mulaz Hut. Once on the Pass, it is possible to reach the top of the mountain (2.906 m.a.s.l.) in about 40 minutes following the red trail signs to finally enjoy the amazing panorama of the entire mountain range of Pale di San Martino and the surrounding peaks.
2nd STAGE – 5h/+790m/-780m
From the Mulaz Hut (2.571 m.a.s.l.) climb up heading to the saddle called Forcella Margherita (2.655 m.a.s.l.) following the 703 path, at the bottom of the peak called Cima del Focobon. After about 30 minutes, take the via ferrata which leads to the pass called Passo delle Farangole (2.814 m.a.s.l.) then go downhill the Val Grande heading to Val delle Comelle, following the trail n. 2 of the Alta Via Dolomiti route up to an altitude of 2.290 metres above sea level. Walk on the slight slope which runs along the northern side of Val delle Comelle, to reach the so called Pian dei Cantoni (2.313 m.a.s.l.) and then climb up to the Rosetta Hut (2.581 m.a.s.l.).
Possible variation: from Val Grande, before walking down the gorge of Comelle, take the 716 path heading to the bivouac called Bivacco Brunner (2.667 m.a.s.l.) and then climb up to Cima della Vezzana (3.192 m.a.s.l., the highest peak of Pale di San Martino) on the via ferrata called Gabitta d’Ignoti. From the top of Vezzana, walk downhill heading to Travignolo Pass and then to Val dei Cantoni along the 716 path, walk up to Bettega Pass (2.660 m.a.s.l) and finally reach the Pale di San Martino plateau and the Rosetta Hut (2.581 m.a.s.l).
3rd STAGE - h/+1.270m/-1.270m
From the Rosetta Hut walk downhill on the 701 path towards San Martino di Castrozza, once at an altitude 2.300 metres above sea level, take the 712 path (also called “dei Finanzieri” path) until you get to the start of the Bolver Lugli al Cimon della Pala, a recently renovated via ferrata. This very panoramic and lofty via ferrata goes up the southern side of Cimon della Pala and permits to reach the Fiamme Gialle bivouac (3.005 m.a.s.l.). From the bivouac, walk downhill towards Passo del Travignolo (2.935 m.a.s.l.), to admire the wonderful view on the Val Venegia and the route of the first day of the Tour. To get back to Rosetta Hut, walk down Val dei Cantoni on the 716 path to climb up to Passo Bettega (2.660 m.a.s.l.) and then reach the Pale di San Martino plateau and the Hut.
Possible variation: From Passo del Travignolo, in about one hour it is possible to climb up to the top of the near Cima della Vezzana (3.192 m.a.s.l.) following the 716 path, and reach the highest peak of the mountain range of Pale di San Martino.
4th STAGE - 5h/+510m/-730m
From the Rosetta Hut (2.581 m.a.s.l.) walk on the 702 path down to Col dele Fede (2.278 m.a.s.l.), keep left and take the 715 path up to Passo di Ball (2.443 m.a.s.l.). From the Pass, go up on the 714 path along the Nico Gusela equipped path to reach the saddle called Forcella Stephen and the nearby Cima di Val di Roda (2.791 m.a.s.l.), from where it is possible to enjoy the breathtaking panorama of San Martino di Castrozza. Climb down to the spot called Porton (2.480 m.a.s.l.) on the 714 path and then take the 739 path and the Velo della Madonna via ferrata until you get to the namesake Hut (2.358 m.a.s.l.).
5th STAGE - 6h/+520m/-1.200m
From the Velo della Madonna Hut, go up to Cima della Stanga (2.550 m.a.s.l.) along the 742 path (also called “del Cacciatore” path) walking down the Val Pradidali under the impressive eastern face of Sass Maor. Once you get to the spot called Pedemonte (also “Pòrtela” 1.627 m.a.s.l.) follow the 709 path towards the ruins of Malga Pradidali (1.428 m.a.s.l.) to finally reach Malga Canali (1.302 m.a.s.l.). Continue on the forest road and follow the trail sign number 707 up to an altitude of 1.428 metres; from here, climb up to Treviso “Canali” Hut (1.634 m.a.s.l.).
Possible variation: an option to fill your day once you get to the Treviso “Canali” Hut, is to climb on the nearby via ferrata called “del Canalone”, just 5 minutes far from the Hut, the 720 path will then lead you back to the Hut in about 2 hours.
6th STAGE - 6h/+1.200m/-1.200m
From the Treviso “Canali” Hut follow the 707 path towards Passo Canali, in about 2 hours take the Fiamme Gialle via ferrata to get to the bivouac called Bivacco Reali (2.595 m.a.s.l.). From Bivacco Reali it is possible to reach, in a walk of about one hour, the top of Croda Granda (2.849 m.a.s.l.). To return to the Hut, follow the trail which from Croda Granda runs along the southern crest towards Bivacco Menegazzi and the saddle of Forcella delle Mughe (2.244 m.a.s.l.); from here, pass the crest and go downhill to get back to the Treviso “Canali” Hut (1.634 m.a.s.l.).
7th STAGE - 5h/+1.260m/-620m
From the Treviso Hut go down along the 707 path to reach, after about 30 minutes, the 711 path. Climb along the 711 path up to the bivouac called Bivacco Minazio (2.250 m.a.s.l.) and get to Passo delle Lede (2.695 m.a.s.l.). From the Pass, walk on the short equipped path which runs along Val Pradidali and then crosses the 709 path, a trail which in a walk of about one hour permits to reach the Pradidali Hut (2.278 m.a.s.l.).
8th STAGE - 6h/+200m/-1.030m
From the Pradidali Hut proceed towards the Velo della Madonna Hut following the 739 trail sign; after a 30 minute walk, take the via ferrata called Ferrata del Porton. Once on the top of the via ferrata you will get to the panoramic spot called Porton (2.480 m.a.s.l.) to enjoy the beautiful view of San Martino di Castrozza, destination of the Palaronda Ferrata 360. Go down following the 739b path and then descend the via ferrata “dela Vecia”, walking on the 721 path first and then on the 702 path to finally reach San Martino di Castrozza (1.450 m.a.s.l.).
