More than just skiing

Even people who are not that keen on sport have discovered the pleasure of excursions in the winter woods on snowshoes. Snowshoes were first invented in Canada a long ago and were used by the indigenous natives to go hunting, by nomadic tribes for travelling in the Arctic regions, and by mountain dwellers in the Alps to collect firewood in the woods or transport hay down to the valley.

The old wooden “craspe” or “ciaspole”, as they are called in Italian, with string bindings, have now been replaced by modern, lightweight versions in metal or plastic that are done up like standard ski boots. Learning how to use them is really easy, so even children will fall in love with this sport which allows you not only to partake in pleasant strolls, but also to perform jumps, dives and somersaults in powdery snow.

Every day, the Alpine guides organise excursions to the most beautiful areas: the Colbricon Lakes on the trail of prehistoric hunters, the plateau of the Pala mountain range in a fascinating atmosphere created by the “sea of snow”, the Piani della Cavallazza which is the kingdom of the chamois, the magical Val Venegia, and hiking trail of the “Cristo Pensante” on Mount Castellaz.

Cost:
€ 30 all day, € 20 half day, € 15 excursions at sunset or in the evenings, including snowshoe hire and poles, plus the services of an Alpine guide. Any charges for using ski lifts are borne by the participants.

San Martino di Castrozza
A short course held by the Alpine guides to learn the basic notions of snow cover and avalanche rescue techniques. You will learn how to safely tackle winter activities in the mountains - snowshoeing, ski mountaineering and freeriding.

An easy excursion on snowshoes in the company of the famous “Eagles of San Martino and Primiero” which ends with dinner at the Malga Ces restaurant. Return by snowmobile.

Passo Cereda
Exiting tour in the woods using the nordic walking technique: walk with snowshoes and headlamp, surrounded only by the silence of a snow-covered forest.

Sunset snowmobile ride through the woods of the Alpe Tognola or Colverde, the bracing air, and the moon lighting up the winter landscape reflected on the snow are all the ingredients you need to enjoy an aperitif under a magnificent starry sky.

San Martino di Castrozza
An unforgettable experience that starts with the ride up on a snowmobile along the illuminated ski slope, an aperitif at 2,000 metres based on local products and craft beer, plus dinner in a “rifugio” (mountain refuge) accompanied by a DJ set. Round off the evening with a night-time ride down in the cable car!

Val Canali
Don’t miss the new layout at Villa Welsperg in the magnificent Val Canali. A path of discovery and reflection through the valleys which wind through this immense protected area, to learn about the rich biodiversity within them, and their environments and landscapes.

A “magical route” for children packed with mini challenges to overcome (the “Via della Lepre, the “Via Ferrata”...), plus exciting encounters with some of the Park’s inhabitants: the stag, the mother lynx, the baby marmots in their burrow...

A stroll around the town lasting about an hour and a half to learn about its historical roots and the wonderful naturalistic features of this renowned location in the Dolomites. Stories about English eighteenth-century travellers and the Alpine pioneers are interspersed with information about the surrounding naturalistic setting, protected by the Parco Naturale Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino.
Stopover at Maso Col for a cup of tea made from medicinal mountain herbs produced by the Erborì company.

Short, easy walk lasting about an hour and a half in the “Foresta dei Violini” (Forest of the Violins) in Paneveggio, with a tour of the wildlife area dedicated to the stag. Discover the immense forest of red fir trees, with ancient trees reaching 40 metres in height and the challenging bridge suspended over the Gorge of Travignolo. You can also visit the “Terra-Foresta” (Land-Forest) Centre before setting off on the excursion.

An afternoon in Caoria in the Vanoi Valley to learn about the history, events and the marks left on the land one hundred years after the First World War, with a guided tour of the Museo della Grande Guerra (Museum of the Great War) on the Lagorai mountain range, the military cemetery and the defence line of Pralongo.

The cheeses of Primiero, the wines of Trentino, the BioNoc' craft beer and the apples of Trentino are the protagonists of delicious aperitifs on the snow with singular events in Gourmet, Sound and Family versions.

Three special events: Saturday 15 and Saturday 29 February "Taste the Sunset" will take place, a tasty AperiCena at sunset at the foot of the Pale di San Martino. On Tuesday, 25 February, carnival will be celebrated with an aperitif in the square and Cheese Show, while awaiting the famous torchlight procession with the Bonfire of the Vecia.

Mezzano
Cheese making and milk processing are considered a vocation in the Primiero and Vanoi valleys. The “Caseificio di Primiero” (Primiero Dairy) is the place where expertise and the history of the “malghe” (mountain hut) come together under one roof. You will be accompanied on a path of discovery to learn the secrets of the cheese makers whose skilled hands produce cheeses, such as Toséla, Trentingrana and Bòtiro di Malga.

Primiero

• New fun-filled bob sleigh and sledge track over 400 m long, can be reached by the Cimon chairlift. Ride up on the chairlift and zoom back down on the specially designed track!
